Youth Program

The IWC Youth Program provides support and guidance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth aged 10-21 years through a unique transformational, whole-of-person case management model.

What we do:

The focus is on the whole-of-person, helping participants to build:

  • Connection to positive family and peer support

  • Engagement with training, education and employment

  • Health and wellbeing

  • A violence-free, safe and stable life

How the program delivers:

IWC delivers case management support covering:

  • Alcohol and drug use

  • Family and kinship relationship

  • Homelessness, or risk of being homeless

  • Education and employment

  • Mental and physical wellbeing

  • Cultural connections

  • Social engagement

  • Family and kinship relationships

The Youth Program sits within the organisation’s Community Services and IWC’s holistic model of care, which offers whole-of-person services including:

 

  • Psychology and counselling

  • Medical, Allied Health, Specialist and Dental Services

  • Alcohol and Other Drugs program

  • Diet and nutrition

In 2016 / 17 IWC held its first Skills Development Sessions in partnership with the Waves Sports Club. It was a huge success, with more than 40 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth aged 10 to 15 taking part. The activities included fitness, diet and nutrition, education around Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), self-esteem building and identifying person goals.
