Christmas sparkle showered on region's needy

CHRISTMAS just got a lot brighter for families and children in need across our regions. A truckload of donated toys and other gifts has arrived at the IWC Health & Wellbeing Centre in Bundaberg for the non-government, Aboriginal community-controlled organisation to distribute.

“This generous donation comes from the Sunshine Coast-based Knitting 4 Brisbane’s Needy (K4BN) and St Peter’s Lutheran College in Indooroopilly,” said IWC Corporate Manager Leanne Connors.

“It is a much appreciated boost for the most disadvantaged in our community, and we are now asking people to let us know if their family, or someone they know, needs some caring community support this festive season.

“This is a great way to bring some Christmas cheer to people in the region who are doing it tough, and it is something we have done in partnership with K4BN and St Peter’s for a few years now.”

This is a gift that will keep on giving into 2019, as parents face the challenge of equipping children for the school year.

“The donated goods also include backpacks, stationery and other items students are going to need, and as we move toward the ‘return to school’ period we will be sharing these across the community as well,” said Ms Connors.

K4BN was established 12 years ago, and is run by a team of volunteers headed by Karen and Peter Croke. They drove the truck up to Bundaberg, where a team of willing IWC staff and volunteers helped them to unload it.

“We help anyone who needs it,” said Karen.

Bundaberg region was helped by K4BN in June, when the wintry weather made their donation of a mountain of blankets, beanies, gloves, scarves and jumpers very welcome.

Ms Connors said: “IWC values our ongoing friendship with Karen and Peter Croke. Their generosity is a huge help for our communities.”
