Weaving Stories: MADE BY MANY HANDS

IWC is proud to introduce you to the incredible Aunty Pam Croft, a respected Elder and Knowledge Sharer in our community and the first First Nations person Nationally to receive a Doctorate in Visual Arts.
We were lucky enough to sit down with Aunty Pam as she shared stories from her remarkable life, reflecting on the journey that has shaped who she is today.
Throughout this vulnerable conversation, Aunty Pam shares her knowledge, experiences and reflections, offering an opportunity for our community to listen, learn from, and connect with her story.
We are so excited to celebrate her achievements, recognise the knowledge she carries, and honor the importance of sharing these stories across generations.
We're bringing everyone together through a series of weaving workshops to create a large-scale woven art installation for the entrance of the IWC building.
Led by Aunty Pam Croft, the initiative invites community members, families, Elders and IWC staff to contribute to an artwork that will become a lasting part of the building, for everyone to enjoy.
Weaving is an important part of our Aboriginal culture, with knowledge and skills shared across generations. Having Aunty Pam share her knowledge with the community is an opportunity to learn, take part in the practice of weaving and spend time together.
Inspired by Country and sea, the installation will bring together woven forms, natural textures and contemporary materials. Each person who takes part will contribute to the larger artwork, making it a collective piece created by many hands.
The workshops also offer an opportunity to slow down, sit together, and have a yarn while creating. No previous weaving experience is needed. Whether you're learning for the first time or already know how to weave, everyone is welcome to come along and be part of the process.
Once complete, the installation will hang in the entrance of IWC, reflecting the collective effort of the people who came together to create it.
Theres still plenty of time to get involved in this meaningful community project, and we would love all the help we can get before we head into the Christmas break.
