Who We Are

Indigenous Wellbeing Centre (IWC) is a "Multi-purpose" community (board of directors) controlled organisation with an Indigenous focus.IWC is a non-profit, non-government organisation with charitable status funded by various Australian and State Government Departments. IWC staff include; health professionals, health/community workers, administrative, accounting and senior management.

IWC operates a "one stop shop" model, mainly providing a range of Primary Health and Community Care services to the community.

IWC delivers services via 3 step Code of Practice which underpins the professionalism of our organisation:

  • 1. Governance
  • 2. Protocols using ‘Best Practice' models
  • 3. Culturally Diverse service delivery
Our values are culturally defined by Aboriginal Terms of Reference (ATR) utilising a holistic approach promoting community capacity & greater opportunities for equity and equality.

What We Do

  • IWC operates as a "one stop shop" model that offers centralised management and administration across a range of programs. These programs are aimed at supporting and improving the health and wellbeing of Indigenous and Non-Indigenous communities across the Bundaberg, North Burnett and Fraser Coast Regions. Additionally, IWC "champions" enterprises that provide opportunities for employment, training and services that benefit the community.  These programs and enterprises are shown on the Organisational Chart.
  •  The IWC manages a range of programs including:

1.Health Linkages” is an health access to mainstream model for Indigenous peoples.

2.Family Support project is a mainstream service with an Indigenous focus, by conducting education and awareness programs (capacity building skills) to strengthen  individuals and families.

3.Cultural Responsive Awareness” is about increasing health providers capacity to support access for Indigenous peoples.

4 Brokerage Health service is for Indigenous clients with or at risk of Diabetes to provide/support access treatment/resources where other avenues have been exhausted. Eligibility criteria and assessment does apply

5. A number of Mainstream Health Services both Clinical/Non-clinical/health promotion are available.
